Are you learning 3ds Max at an art school?
I spent days tweaking the textures and getting the Rig/Facial morphs right.
But to answer your question yes, I did go to school for this. But I quickly found if you want to be any good you have to work hard on your own time and continue to learn outside of school.
I've got a long way to go but I definately appreciate everyone's compliments and favs!
I've been tryin' to do CG stuff like that

One little spark of inspiration
Is at the heart of all creation
Right at the start of everything that\'s new
One little spark lights up for you
It took me awhile to get to this point.
I recommend cgtalk.com and 3dtotal.com great resources to learn from.
this is great!
to answer your question
the program I use is Discreet 3D studio max
you can find out more about it over at autodesk.com/3dsmax
and another 3d program owned by discreet: autodesk.com/maya
both are excellent programs and have free trial demos if you want to mess around
and thank you!
